The Määkijä kota has been erected on a beautiful cape, on the Kapiavesi lakeshore. This kota, roughly described as a traditional Finnish and Sami forest hut, can especially be recommended for families with children, as all family members, the young and the old, surely enjoy spending a night in the forest on such a breathtakingly beautiful nature site.
Ketunlenkki, a popular hiking trail, can be connected to some 200 meters from the Määkijä kota. Via the Ketunlossi cable ferry the distance to the Lapinsalmi parking area is 1,5 kilometers. The new Lapinsalmi bridge, at the moment under construction and due to be opened during Autumn 2019, is located some 2 kilometers away.
Rental object info
This wooden kota, with a living area of 25 m2, was built in 2010. The Määkijä kota provides seating for around 20 people, and overnighting facilities for 5 people on the kota benches (additional bunks can be made on the floor). Included in the kota reservation the guests will be able to enjoy the lovely yard, defined by fences. (Without a reservation it is not permitted to enter the yard.)
This kota doesn’t feature its own private beach, but there’s a public fireplace right beside the premises with a nature-shaped beach, suitable and recommendable for swimming for the whole family. There’s also a platform for kayaks and canoes on the beach. And needless to say, the Finnish lake waters are amongst the clearest and cleanest in the world.
The Määkijä kota sits on the Kapiavesi lakeshore, 1,5 kilometers away from the Lapinsalmi parking area and 2 kilometers away from the Tervajärvi parking area. Two hiking trails, the Kaakkurinkierros and the Ketunlenkki, pass nearby the kota. There’s no road access with any motor vehicle to the Määkijä kota.

The Repovesi national park adheres to the principle of leaving no waste behind, and there are no waste containers in the national park. Every visitor is responsible for their own waste. This means, all non-burnable waste (including aluminium-lined food containers) that you bring with you must be brought out of the national park.
As the outhouse is non-compostable, do not discard any compostable waste, such as food scraps, in the outhouse.
Small paper and cardboard waste can be used as tinders in the campfire, but do not leave any non-burned waste behind.
Under any circumstances do not leave any foodstuffs behind, as they attract animals.
