The Karhulahti kota, with its lovely yard, sits on a beautiful spot on the Repovesi lakeshore. This large lake is defined by its rocky shores. Two hiking trails, the Korpinkierros and the Kaakkurinkierros, circle closeby the kota. Distance to Olhavanvuori, a distinctive hilltop, is about 1 kilometer.

Rental obejct info

This wooden kota, with a a living area of 50 m2, was built in 2008. The Karhulahti kota provides seating for around 25-30 persons, and overnighting facilities for 10 persons, on bunk beds and on mattresses. Included in the kota reservation the guests will be able to enjoy the lovely yard, defined by fences. (Without a reservation it is not permitted to enter the yard.) The kota and the surrounding yard are accessible with a wheelchair.

The Karhulahti kota doesn’t feature a private beach, but there is a public campfire site nearby, with separate boat and kayak platforms and a lovely nature-shaped lakeshore with a beach.


The Karhulahti kota is located on the Repovesi lakeshore, about 4 kilometers from the nearest parking area, the Saarijärvi parking. Two hiking trails, the Korpinkierros and the Kaakkurinkierros, pass nearby the kota. There’s no road access with any motor vehicle to the Karhulahti kota.


  • Stove (for cooking and heating the kota)

  • Coffee and tea pots        

  • One big and one small kettle (separate kettles for indoor and outdoor use)

  • Water buckets for dishes and dishwashing water, a water scoop

  • A floor brush and a dustpan, outdoor brush, snow shovel

  • An accessible outhouse (non-compostable; please bring own toilet paper!)

  • No running water; the nearest well is located 1 km away at Olhava district.

Booking info and usage

The Karhulahti kota is available for rent throughout the year; bookings only through our online booking service. Please click ”Book now” for commencing the booking sequence. In case you wish to make multiple bookings simultaneously, please add all the purchases in the shopping cart before payment.

The check-in to the kota will begin at 14.00 on the day of arrival, and the check-out must be made before 10.00 on the day of departure. Please adhere to the schedules.


Specific info regarding the keys will be sent with the booking confirmation. The keys are being kept at the premises, in a smart locker on the kota wall. Instructions can be found pinned on the wall beside the locker. The person making the reservation will be sent a PIN code to the locker via SMS some hours before the start of the lease.

The person making the reservation will be holding the responsibility for the keys throughout the lease. The keys must be returned to the locker once the lease time has expired. In case the the person making the reservation fails to return the keys, a compensation is to be paid according to the booking terms and conditions.

Cleaning and waste disposal

The person making the reservation is responsible of the tidiness of the leased premises, the yard and the connected services. Please clean the premises thoroughly, so that the next visitors will also have a pleasant stay!

The Repovesi national park adheres to the principle of leaving no waste behind, and there are no waste containers in the national park. Every visitor is responsible for their own waste. This means, all non-burnable waste (including aluminium-lined food containers) that you bring with you must be brought out of the national park.

As the outhouse is non-compostable, do not discard any compostable waste, such as food scraps, in the outhouse.

Small paper and cardboard waste can be used as tinders in the campfire, but do not leave non-burned waste behind.

Under any circumstances do not leave any foodstuffs behind, as they attract animals.

Pets are allowed in the Karhulahti kota. Remember to clean after your dog and pick up dog litter from the yard before you leave. Always keep your pet in a leash inside the national park.

Please note

No smoking inside the kota.

There are mobile phone dead zones in the national park. Please check the connectivity of your mobile phone with your operator. If You have trouble in connecting with your mobile phone, try to climb on a higher terrain or find an open terrain. In case of an emergency call remove the SIM card: this may be helpful in connecting with the emergency operator.
